what action can we can take?
I believe that California is currently doing a relatively adequate job at aiding homeless folks. The state and Governor Newsom are cultivating the right investments and funding. Although, like the "opposing" side says, I also believe that state officials need to be stricter on jurisdiction and funding.
What might this look like or mean? It means being firmer on local governments when it comes to providing for the homeless, holding the local government accountable when it comes to irresponsibility, and especially, getting people the stable housing they need.
I also believe that the state government should work not only with local governments, but local non-profit programs and interest groups who are advocating for the prosperity and wellness of homeless people, such as Miracle Messages and many others.
How can I help? What can I do? One thing we can do to directly do to help the homeless community is volunteer. Many programs similar to Housing California and Miracle Messages have options for volunteer work and to become a part of their team! Other non-profits such as canned food drives, soup houses, and various outreach programs also offer volunteering. On a less direct level—but, still impactful—is to contact state or local officials expressing concerns.
